This microbiology abstract series was the starting point for my transition from realism to abstract painting in 2006. Increasingly uninspired by realism, I turned to a familiar subject, microbiology (I earned an undergraduate degree in Bacteriology in 1969) for the inspiration and the direction for my initial abstract compositions. It's also ironic that the earliest painting in the series was, quite appropriately, titled "The Plunge".
